Celebrate valor, wisdom, and divine protection with this 4-inch Murugan Idol, masterfully handcrafted in Panchaloha, the traditional five-metal sacred alloy of South India. Lord Murugan (also known as Subramanya, Kartikeya or Skanda) is depicted in a regal standing pose, holding his Vel (spear) with elegance, and accompanied by his sacred vahana — the Peacock, symbolizing victory over ego and ignorance. From the fine ornaments to the calm and commanding expression on the deity’s face, every detail reflects the precision and artistry of skilled artisans. The circular pedestal with intricate engravings further enhances the presence of this divine sculpture. Perfect for home puja rooms, spiritual gifting, or temple decor, this idol brings with it the spiritual energy of courage, intelligence, and righteousness. Note: At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. These unique characteristics, along with potential differences in lighting and screen displays, may cause the product to appear slightly different from the images shown.

About This Piece

4″ Murugan Idol with Peacock | Handcrafted Panchaloha | Green Patina

This 4-inch standing Murugan idol is handcrafted in Panchaloha, the traditional five-metal alloy used in South Indian temple iconography for over a millennium, measuring 4 inches in height, 2.5 inches in width, and 1.75 inches in depth, and weighing 300 grams.

The figure is cast and finished by hand, a process that demands sustained attention at every stage — from the initial wax modeling and metal pour to the chiseling of fine surface details. The deity is shown in a composed standing posture, adorned with layered necklaces, armlets, and an ornate crown. His right hand is raised in what appears to be a gesture of blessing, while his left holds the Vel, the sacred spear that is his defining attribute. To his left stands his vahana, the peacock, rendered with a raised crown and folded wings. The circular base carries engraved detailing that frames the composition with care. The expression on the face is calm and direct — neither severe nor soft, which is consistent with classical Murugan iconography.

Murugan, also known as Kartikeya, Subramanya, and Skanda, is among the most widely venerated deities in South Indian tradition. He represents martial valor, spiritual wisdom, and righteous authority. The Vel he carries is understood not as a weapon of violence but as an instrument of knowledge that pierces through ignorance. His peacock vahana carries its own symbolic weight — the peacock that subdues the serpent, read as the disciplined mind overcoming lower impulses.

Panchaloha is a consecrated alloy composed of five metals — gold, silver, copper, zinc, and iron — combined in proportions prescribed by Agamic texts. It has been the material of choice for temple icons across South India precisely because of its density, workability, and the belief that it holds sanctity across generations.

This piece carries an antique green patina finish, visible across the surface with warm gold tones breaking through at raised details. As with all handcrafted work, individual pieces will carry slight variation in texture, tone, and surface character — this is inherent to the process and not a defect.

It is suited for a home puja room, a personal altar, or as a considered gift for someone with a serious connection to South Indian devotional tradition.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
