This 11-inch Ardhanarishvara idol portrays Shiva and Parvati as a single, harmonious form—the union of masculine power and feminine grace. Handcrafted in brass with an antique brass finish, the sculpture shows Shiva’s jata and axe on one side and Parvati’s delicate drapery and ornaments on the other. The balanced stance on a lotus pedestal gives it a calm, puja-ready presence for altars, consoles, and living rooms. Why it’s special Symbol of balance, completeness, and harmony in the home Finely carved jewelry, crown, and garments on both halves Compact statement height (11″) that suits most spaces Care: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemicals to preserve the finish. Note: At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. These unique characteristics, along with potential differences in lighting and screen displays, may cause the product to appear slightly different from the images shown.

About This Piece

11″ Divine Ardhanareeswarar | Handcrafted Brass | Antique Brass Finish

This 11-inch Ardhanareeshwara idol, measuring 11" H x 5" W x 4" D and weighing 2,300 grams, is handcrafted in brass and finished in an antique brass tone. The form depicts the composite deity Ardhanarishvara — Shiva and Parvati unified in a single standing figure — rendered here with a calm, composed expression and a subtly contrapposto posture that conveys stillness without rigidity.

The sculpture is cast using traditional lost-wax methods, a process that allows the craftsperson to achieve the level of surface detail visible across this piece — the layered jata crown rising above the head, the fine filigree of necklaces and armlets, the textured drape of the dhoti and flowing lower garment on the feminine side, and the structured, bare musculature on the masculine half. One hand is raised, another holds what appears to be a small trident or axe attribute, while the remaining hands are positioned in gestures that mirror the classical iconographic grammar for this form. The figure stands on a tiered circular pedestal with carved relief detailing at its base.

Ardhanarishvara represents the inseparable nature of Shiva and Shakti — masculine and feminine energies understood not as opposites but as two expressions of a single reality. In Indian philosophical tradition, this form embodies completeness, the idea that creation itself requires the union of both principles. It is one of the more nuanced and conceptually rich forms in the Shaiva tradition.

Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been the material of choice for Indian devotional sculpture for centuries. Its density gives this piece a satisfying weight in hand, while its warm, golden-brown tone deepens further with the antique finish applied here, lending the surface an aged quality consistent with temple bronzes.

The antique brass finish produces a darkened, burnished appearance that accentuates the carved detail across the crown, ornaments, and garment folds. As with all handcrafted work, minor variation in surface tone and texture from piece to piece is inherent to the process and reflects its handmade character.

At 11 inches, this idol is well suited for a dedicated puja room, a home altar, or as a considered gift for someone who values devotional art with iconographic depth.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
