This handcrafted agal lamp pair with engraved base, cast in super fine brass, each piece measuring 1.5 inches (4.5 cm) tall, 1.5 inches (4.5 cm) wide, and 1.5 inches (4.5 cm) deep, and weighing approximately 240 g for the pair, takes the form of a traditional oil lamp cup mounted above a structured, tiered base that carries dense surface engraving throughout, with a smooth interior well designed to hold oil or ghee for a flame.

Each lamp in the pair is produced using traditional lost-wax casting, a technique that allows the layered geometry of the form — a broad, shallow cup with a beaded rim, a waisted mid-section, and a domed lower base — to be rendered with full surface articulation at this compact scale. The exterior of the lamp cup carries a continuous band of arched relief work, with arch forms repeating in close succession around the circumference and scrolling foliate motifs filling the spaces between them. The beaded rim runs as a clean, evenly spaced band along the upper edge of the cup, while the lower dome of the base carries further engraving including rounded cartouche forms and scroll detailing that extends to its own beaded lower border. The interior of each cup is left smooth and polished, forming the functional oil well. Super fine brass casting is what preserves the sharpness of each beaded segment, arch repeat, scroll channel, and cartouche edge consistently across both pieces in the pair.

The agal vilakku, or traditional oil lamp, holds a foundational place in Indian devotional practice. Lighting a lamp is among the most primary acts of puja — an offering of light that marks the presence of the sacred, accompanies prayer and ritual, and is considered auspicious at thresholds, festivals, and daily worship alike. A lamp of this form, with its engraved base and beaded detailing, reflects the care historically given to even the most functional ritual objects in Indian craft tradition.

Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been central to Indian devotional and decorative metalwork for centuries. It holds fine cast detail with fidelity, carries a warm tonal depth that develops with age, and is structurally durable — qualities that make it suited for both active ritual use and long-term display.

This pair carries a polished finish, visible in the bright warm gold tone across the lamp cup interiors and upper surfaces, set against darkened recesses within the arch bands, scroll channels, and cartouche forms that give the surface its contrast, legibility, and visual depth. Handcrafted pieces carry natural variation in surface texture and tone between individual sculptures.

This agal lamp pair is well suited for a puja room or home altar, for auspicious gifting on Diwali, housewarmings, and religious occasions, or as a collector's piece in classical Indian devotional brassware.

Note: At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. These unique characteristics, along with potential differences in lighting and screen displays, may cause the product to appear slightly different from the images shown.

Shipping & Care

How We Pack It

Every idol is individually wrapped in soft cloth and nestled in foam casing inside a double-walled corrugated box. We have shipped to 25+ countries without a single breakage complaint.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
