This Murugan idol, cast in super fine brass, stands 9.5 inches (24 cm) tall, 4 inches (10 cm) wide, and 3.5 inches (9 cm) deep, weighing approximately 830 g, and depicts the deity in an upright frontal stance on a tiered pedestal, four-armed, with a peacock flanking the figure at the base — one of the most established iconographic compositions for this deity in South Indian devotional tradition.

The sculpture is produced using traditional lost-wax casting, a technique that makes the density of ornamentation across this figure possible at this scale. Murugan is shown holding a vel — the sacred spear — in his lower right hand, its shaft extending to the ground, while the upper right hand is raised in a gesture of blessing. The lower left hand is open and held forward, and the upper left holds a rounded vessel. He is dressed in full ceremonial regalia: layered bead-strand necklaces, armlets and wristlets, a broad waist ornament, and a lower garment rendered in defined vertical pleats with embellished, foliate-edged borders. The crown is tall and tiered, built upward through diminishing registers of carved ornament and topped with a central finial. The face carries a composed, serene expression. The peacock at his feet is rendered with attention to its form — body, folded wings, and raised head all clearly resolved. The stepped pedestal is worked with geometric relief panels and a beaded upper border. Super fine brass casting is what allows the jewelry strands, garment folds, crown tiers, and peacock detail to remain crisp and legible throughout the composition.

Murugan, also known as Kartikeya, Skanda, and Subrahmanya, is among the most widely venerated deities in the Hindu tradition, particularly in South India. He is understood as the lord of war, valor, and wisdom, and as the commander of the celestial forces. The vel he carries is his primary attribute — a symbol of spiritual knowledge that destroys ignorance. The peacock as his vahana represents the destruction of ego and desire. His worship spans ancient Sangam literature through to living temple traditions, and his standing four-armed form is one of the most enduring arrangements in South Indian temple iconography.

Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been central to Indian devotional metalwork for centuries. It holds fine cast detail with fidelity, carries a warm tonal depth that develops with time, and is structurally durable — qualities that make it suited for both active ritual use and long-term display.

This piece carries a polished finish, visible in the warm bright gold tone across the raised surfaces of the crown, face, jewelry, garment borders, and pedestal relief, with darkened recesses in the ornamental channels, fabric folds, and scrollwork that give the composition its definition and depth. Handcrafted pieces carry natural variation in surface texture and tone between individual sculptures.

This Murugan idol is well suited for a home puja room, a personal altar, gifting on occasions such as Thaipusam or housewarmings, or as a collector's piece in classical South Indian devotional sculpture.

Note: At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. These unique characteristics, along with potential differences in lighting and screen displays, may cause the product to appear slightly different from the images shown.

Shipping & Care

How We Pack It

Every idol is individually wrapped in soft cloth and nestled in foam casing inside a double-walled corrugated box. We have shipped to 25+ countries without a single breakage complaint.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
