About This Piece

9″ Sacred Sitting Garudan Idol for Pooja & Home Décor | Handcrafted Wood Carving | Antique Colour Finish

This 9.5-inch seated Garudan idol is handcarved from Vaagai wood and finished in a layered antique colour palette of deep terracotta, gold, teal, and black. The piece measures 9.5 inches in height, 6.5 inches in width, and 2.5 inches in depth, weighing 800 grams — substantial enough to carry presence without being difficult to place.

The carving follows classical iconographic conventions for Garudan in a devotional posture. The figure is rendered seated in a cross-legged position with hands pressed together in anjali mudra, the gesture of reverence and surrender. The wings are spread wide on either side in a crescent arc, each feather individually defined with fine chisel work. The face is calm and frontal, with clearly articulated features — a tilted urdhva pundra mark on the forehead, large circular ear ornaments, and a stacked crown with a topknot. The neck and upper body carry layered jewellery detailing. The lower garment is rendered in teal with gold edging, and the base is structured as a tiered plinth with decorative banding. The level of surface relief across the wings, crown, and ornamental elements reflects considerable carving skill and patience.

In the Vaishnava tradition, Garuda holds a position of immense reverence as the vahana of Lord Vishnu and the embodiment of bhakti, strength, and protection. His image at an entrance or within a sacred space is understood to ward off negativity and signal the presence of divine order.

Vaagai wood is a dense, fine-grained hardwood that has long been favoured for devotional carving due to its stability, resistance to warping, and capacity to hold intricate surface detail over time without degradation.

The antique colour finish combines ochre-red base tones with gold and dark antiquing that accentuates the carved relief and lends the piece an aged, temple-like quality. As with all handcarved work, individual pieces will carry natural variation in colour depth, surface texture, and fine detailing — no two are identical. This idol suits a puja room, an entrance threshold, or a collector's shelf focused on traditional South Indian wood carving.

How We Pack It

Every idol is individually wrapped in soft cloth and nestled in foam casing inside a double-walled corrugated box. We have shipped to 25+ countries without a single breakage complaint.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
