Crisp features, graceful proportions, and a tiered pedestal make it a striking focal point for home altars, study tables, and entry consoles. At 9 inches tall, it carries presence without overwhelming your space—ideal for daily worship or as a meaningful gift. Placement: Puja room, living room console, study/officeCare: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth; avoid moisture and harsh chemicals. Note: At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. About This Piece

9″ Matsya Avatar | Handcrafted Brass | Antique Brown Finish

This 9-inch handcrafted brass sculpture depicts Matsya Avatar, the first of the Dashavatara, standing upright on a tiered circular pedestal. The form presents Lord Vishnu's fish incarnation in its classical configuration: a four-armed divine figure with a serene, composed expression rising from a sculpted fish tail rendered with clearly defined scales and a fanned fin at the base. The upper hands hold a Sudarshana Chakra and a conch shell, while the lower hands adopt gestures of blessing and protection. The figure stands at 9 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide, and 3 inches deep, and weighs 1600 grams.

The sculpture has been produced through solid brass casting, with hand-finishing applied to define the surface detail across the ornamental jewelry, the layered crown, the textile folds of the waist garment, and the scale pattern along the fish body. The facial features are cleanly resolved — wide eyes, a calm mouth, and a structured headdress with a pointed finial — reflecting the iconographic standards established in South Indian temple sculpture traditions. The tiered pedestal, with its repeating lotus petal molding, follows the same canonical approach to presenting a standing deity form.

Matsya Avatar holds a specific place in Hindu cosmology as the form Vishnu took to rescue the Vedas and guide Manu through the great flood. It represents divine intervention at a moment of total dissolution — the preservation of knowledge, life, and cosmic order. In devotional practice, the Matsya form is associated with protection and the sustaining grace of Vishnu across all conditions.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc that has been used in Indian ritual and decorative metalwork for centuries. Its density gives cast sculptures like this one a substantial weight and structural integrity, while its surface accepts patination and finishing work with consistency. At 1600 grams, this piece carries the solidity characteristic of quality brass casting.

The finish is an antique brown patina, applied by hand to deepen the recessed areas and allow the raised details — the jewelry, the scales, the crown — to retain their warmer, lighter tone. This contrast gives the sculpture its visual depth. Because each piece is individually cast and finished, natural variation in surface tone and texture should be expected and is inherent to the process.

This sculpture is well suited for a puja room altar, a study or office shelf, or an entry console where it can be seen at close range — it is also a considered gift for housewarmings, religious occasions, or collectors of traditional Indian brass work.

How We Pack It

Every idol is individually wrapped in soft cloth and nestled in foam casing inside a double-walled corrugated box. We have shipped to 25+ countries without a single breakage complaint.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
