About This Piece

9″ Divine Murugan with Arch | Handcrafted Brass | Fine Work

This 9-inch brass figure of Lord Murugan stands upright within a fully cast, openwork prabhavali arch, measuring 9 inches in height, 5.5 inches in width, and 3 inches in depth, with a total weight of 1700 grams.

The sculpture is cast in solid brass and finished by hand across every surface. Murugan is depicted in a four-armed standing form, holding his vel, the divine spear, in one hand while the remaining arms carry attributes consistent with South Indian iconographic tradition. His peacock, Murugan's vahana, is rendered at the base of the idol near his feet. The figure wears an ornate conical crown, elaborate chest ornaments, layered waistbands, and finely detailed dhoti folds that extend to the ankles. The arch surrounding the deity is pierced with scrolling floral and foliate motifs, bordered by a beaded edge, and crowned with a multi-faced finial at the top. The stepped lotus base is engraved with petal patterns and carries the full weight of the composition with structural solidity. The level of surface articulation across the arch, the body ornamentation, and the facial features reflects a significant investment of skilled hand-finishing work.

Lord Murugan, also known as Kartikeya or Skanda, is the son of Shiva and Parvati and one of the most widely venerated deities in South Indian tradition. He is regarded as the god of war, wisdom, and righteous power, and his vel symbolises the destruction of ego and ignorance. Worship of Murugan holds particular centrality in Tamil devotional life, with a deep canon of scripture, ritual, and temple architecture built around his form.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc that has been used in Indian ritual and decorative metalwork for centuries. It is valued for its density, warm golden tone, and resistance to corrosion, making it well-suited for objects intended for long-term devotional use.

This piece carries a polished finish that brings out the warm golden tone of the brass and highlights the surface detailing across the arch and figure. As with all handcrafted work, minor variation in texture, tone, and fine detailing from piece to piece is inherent to the process.

At 1700 grams, this is a substantial piece suited to a dedicated puja room, a home altar, or as a considered gift for someone who values traditional craft and iconographic precision.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
