About This Piece

8″ Shiva in Meditation | Handcrafted Brass | Antique Brown Finish

This 8.5-inch handcrafted brass sculpture depicts Lord Shiva seated in dhyana, the meditative posture, with legs crossed in padmasana and hands resting open in the lap in a gesture of deep inward stillness. The piece measures 8.5 inches in height, 5 inches in width, and 4 inches in depth, and weighs 3000 grams, giving it a substantial, grounded presence on any surface.

The sculpture has been cast using traditional lost-wax or sand-casting methods and then finished by hand. The level of detail across the figure reflects considerable skill — the matted locks are stacked and tied at the crown with a small cobra coiled at the base, the face carries a composed, inward expression with the characteristic third eye marked on the forehead, and fine ornamental detailing runs across the chest, arms, and ears. The tiered lotus base is engraved with repeating petal motifs, a form that appears consistently in classical South Asian iconographic tradition. This kind of finish work — getting the face calm without being blank, the ornamentation precise without overpowering the form — requires a practiced hand and an understanding of the iconographic canon.

Shiva in the dhyana posture represents the aspect of the deity known as Mahayogi — the great ascetic who holds the cosmos in stillness. This form is central to meditative and yogic traditions across India and is among the most widely venerated representations of Shiva in domestic worship.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc with a density and warmth that make it well suited to devotional sculpture. It does not rust, holds fine detail reliably through casting, and develops character over time with minimal care.

The antique brown finish has been applied by hand to deepen the recessed areas and bring forward the surface detail — the effect is visible clearly in the definition of the torso, ornaments, and facial features. Because each piece is finished individually, there will be natural variation in tone and texture from one sculpture to the next.

This sculpture suits a home puja shelf, a meditation or yoga space, or a desk, and makes a considered gift for someone with a serious interest in Indian devotional art or contemplative practice.

How We Pack It

Every idol is individually wrapped in soft cloth and nestled in foam casing inside a double-walled corrugated box. We have shipped to 25+ countries without a single breakage complaint.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
