About This Piece

8″ Bala Tripura Sundari | Handcrafted Brass | Antique Brown Finish

This 8.5-inch Bala Tripura Sundari idol is handcrafted in brass and finished in antique brown, depicting the youthful form of the Divine Mother seated in lalitasana on a double-tiered lotus pedestal with engraved petal detailing across the base.

The figure is rendered with four arms, two raised and two resting, with the hands positioned in gestures of blessing and protection. The face carries a composed, gently smiling expression with defined eyes, a tilted brow marking, and cascading hair ornamented at the crown. Across the body, the craftwork is dense — layered necklaces, armlets, a beaded waistband, and draped fabric rendered with shallow relief carving that reads clearly at this scale. The ornamental detailing follows classical iconographic conventions for the Bala form, which depicts the goddess as youthful and approachable rather than austere. Achieving this level of surface definition in brass requires patient hand-finishing after the initial cast, with chisels and gravers used to recover fine lines that casting alone cannot reliably produce.

Bala Tripura Sundari is one of the Dasha Mahavidyas and a central deity in the Shakta tradition. The Bala form specifically represents the goddess in her adolescent aspect — embodying creative potential, grace, and the power of learning. She is associated with Lalita Sahasranama, Friday worship, and is invoked for clarity of mind, confidence, and inner alignment. This form holds particular significance in South Indian and Tantric worship traditions.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. It has been the primary material for Indian devotional sculpture for centuries, valued for its thermal stability, workability under hand tools, and the warm, golden-brown tones it develops over time. At 4,200 grams, this piece has the solidity expected of a serious devotional or display object.

The antique brown finish deepens the surface relief and gives the piece a patinated appearance consistent with aged temple bronzes. As with all handcrafted brass work, individual pieces will carry slight variation in tone, texture, and surface character.

This idol is well-suited to a home puja room, personal altar, or as a considered gift for Navaratri, housewarmings, or new beginnings.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
