This handcrafted Aarthanareeswarar idol represents the divine union of Shiva and Parvati in one harmonious form. Half-masculine and half-feminine, it symbolises the perfect balance of strength and grace, logic and compassion. Finished in a beautiful wood-patina tone, this 6-inch sculpture brings an earthy, antique charm rooted in traditional panchaloha craftsmanship. Perfect for: home altars, study tables, spiritual corners, and meaningful gifting. Care: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water and chemicals to preserve the patina. Note: At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. These unique characteristics, along with potential differences in lighting and screen displays, may cause the product to appear slightly different from the images shown.

About This Piece

6″ Aarthanareeswarar (Shiva–Parvati) | Handcrafted Panchaloha | Wood Patina

This 6-inch Ardhanareeshwara idol, standing 15 cm tall and weighing 350 grams, is cast in Panchaloha — the traditional five-metal alloy used in South Indian temple sculpture — and finished in a deep wood patina that gives the surface the appearance of aged bronze.

The form follows classical iconographic convention: a standing figure in a gentle tribhanga posture, one hand raised in abhaya mudra offering reassurance, another lowered in varada mudra signifying bestowal. The raised right hand holds what appears to be a serpent-entwined staff, a traditional Shaiva attribute. The crown is elaborate, stacked in the kirita style with fine scrollwork that required patient hand-finishing after casting. The face carries a calm, composed expression — neither fierce nor soft, which is precisely the intention of this form. The drapery across the lower body is rendered with fine pleated detail, and the figure stands on a tiered circular base with petal motifs worked into the rim. Each of these elements is shaped first in wax, then lost to the casting process, then refined by hand — a method that has governed South Indian bronze-making for well over a thousand years.

Ardhanareeshwara is the combined form of Shiva and Parvati, representing the inseparability of masculine and feminine principles in Hindu philosophy. The form teaches that Purusha and Prakriti — consciousness and matter — are not opposites but one continuous reality. It is among the most theologically considered forms in the Shaiva tradition.

Panchaloha, meaning five metals, traditionally combines gold, silver, copper, zinc, and iron in proportions governed by Agamic texts. The alloy produces a density and surface quality that ages with character and holds fine detail through generations of use.

The wood patina finish gives this piece a warm, earthy tone that reads as antique without being artificially distressed. Because each idol is individually handcrafted, surface texture, patina depth, and fine detailing will vary slightly from piece to piece.

This idol is suited to a home altar, a puja room dedicated to Shaiva worship, a study or meditation corner, or as a considered gift for someone who values devotional craft.

How We Pack It

Every idol is individually wrapped in soft cloth and nestled in foam casing inside a double-walled corrugated box. We have shipped to 25+ countries without a single breakage complaint.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
