About This Piece
3″ Lord Kubera | Super-Fine Handcrafted Brass
This 3-inch Lord Kubera idol is cast in superfine brass and measures 3 inches in height, 2 inches in width, and 2.5 inches in depth, weighing 100 grams. Kubera is depicted seated in a cross-legged posture on a tiered, lotus-carved pedestal, his right hand raised in abhaya mudra and his left cradling the nakula, the mongoose traditionally associated with the pouring forth of gems and wealth. The crown is tall and ornately detailed, the neck layered with beaded necklaces, and the torso rendered with the characteristic fullness that iconographic tradition prescribes for Kubera as the lord of abundance.
The piece is produced using a fine casting process in which molten brass is poured into a detailed mold and then finished by hand. The level of surface detail visible here — the individual strands of the necklaces, the textured base molding, the crisp definition of the facial features — reflects careful hand-finishing work done after the initial casting. This quality of detailing is consistent with temple iconographic standards, executed at a compact scale that demands considerable precision.
In Hindu tradition, Kubera is the treasurer of the gods and the guardian of the northern direction. He is worshipped for the stability and growth of wealth, and his presence in a home, business, or altar space is considered auspicious. He is particularly associated with Dhanteras and Akshaya Tritiya observances.
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc that has been the primary material for Indian devotional metalwork for centuries. It holds fine detail well during casting, develops a warm golden tone with age, and remains structurally stable over long periods of use and daily worship.
This idol carries a polished finish, giving it the bright, burnished tone visible in the image — a warm antique gold with natural depth across the recessed areas. As with all handcrafted pieces, minor variation in tone, texture, and surface character will occur between individual castings.
This piece is suited for a home puja room, office desk, shop cash counter or locker, and is a considered gift for housewarmings, new business openings, and festive occasions.
