This handcrafted pair of lamps with stand engraving, cast in super fine brass, each standing 3 inches (7.5 cm) tall, 2 inches (5 cm) wide, and 2 inches (5 cm) deep, weighing approximately 310 g for the pair, features a broad conical pedestal base densely worked with allover surface engraving, a beaded transitional ring at the neck, and a scalloped multi-lobed oil cup at the crown with ornamental relief across the rim.
Each lamp is produced using traditional lost-wax casting followed by hand engraving, a combination that demands considerable skill at every stage. The pedestal is conical and wide at the base, narrowing as it rises toward the cup junction. Across the full surface of this cone, fine allover engraving has been applied by hand — a tight, continuous pattern of scrolling foliate and geometric motifs that covers the body without interruption, giving the pedestal its dense, textured quality visible across the entire surface. At the upper junction, a beaded moulding ring separates the engraved pedestal from the cup assembly above. Below the cup, a band of ornamental relief — worked with scroll and petal forms — acts as a collar before opening into the multi-lobed cup itself, whose scalloped rim is individually resolved with scrolled foliate detailing on each lobe. The interior of the cup is polished to a warm gold finish to receive oil or a tea light. Super fine brass casting is what preserves the sharpness of every engraved line, beaded moulding, scroll form, and lobe edge across both pieces in the pair.
The lamp — or diya — holds a foundational place in Indian devotional practice. Light is understood in Indian tradition as a symbol of knowledge, purity, and the removal of darkness, and the act of lighting a lamp before a deity or in a sacred space is among the most consistent ritual gestures across Hindu worship. A pair of lamps placed symmetrically on either side of an altar carries additional auspicious weight, marking balance and completion in the ritual arrangement.
Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been central to Indian devotional and decorative metalwork for centuries. It holds fine cast and engraved detail with fidelity, carries a warm tonal depth that develops with age, and is structurally durable — qualities that make it suited for both active ritual use and long-term display.
This pair carries a polished finish, visible in the bright warm gold tone across the cup rims, collar relief, and beaded mouldings, with a contrasting silver-toned treatment across the engraved pedestal bodies that gives the composition its two-tone visual character and surface depth. Handcrafted pieces carry natural variation in surface texture and tone between individual sculptures.
This lamp pair is well suited for a puja room or home altar, for auspicious gifting on Diwali, housewarmings, and religious occasions, or as a collector's piece in classical Indian devotional brassware.
Note: At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. These unique characteristics, along with potential differences in lighting and screen displays, may cause the product to appear slightly different from the images shown.
Handcrafted — every piece varies by ±3%. That variation is the mark of a human hand, not a flaw.
