A charming depiction of Bal Krishna in his beloved butter-stealing form, this 18-inch wooden carving captures innocence, joy, and divine playfulness. Seated gracefully with a pot of butter, Krishna’s expression radiates warmth and mischief, while the intricately carved arch and surrounding motifs add a rich, traditional touch. The detailed craftsmanship brings out the softness of the form and the depth of the design, making it both a spiritual symbol and a beautiful décor piece. Perfect for pooja rooms and home décor, this sculpture adds a sense of happiness, abundance, and positive energy to any space. Note:At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. These unique characteristics, along with potential differences in lighting and screen displays, may cause the product to appear slightly different from the images shown.

About This Piece

18″ Playful Butter Krishna with Arch for Pooja & Home Décor | Handcrafted Wood Carving

This 18-inch Bal Krishna wall sculpture, measuring 17" H x 9.5" W x 3" D and weighing approximately 2,900 grams, is hand-carved from Vaagai wood in a traditional South Indian devotional style. The piece depicts Krishna in his celebrated childhood form, seated on a raised throne-like base with a parrot resting on his left arm and his right hand held in a gesture of offering or blessing.

The carving demonstrates considerable technical depth. The figure is framed within a full prabhavali arch, its outer edge marked by a kirtimukha face at the crown and layered foliage flowing down both sides. The throne base is rendered with fluted pillar detailing and a lotus band along the lower register, all carved from a single wood panel. The ornamental detail across the chest, crown, and limbs is fine-lined without being overworked, which is characteristic of experienced hand-chiseling where restraint is as important as elaboration.

Bal Krishna, known as Balakrishna or Makhan Chor in devotional tradition, holds a central place in Vaishnavism. His childhood leelas, particularly the stealing of butter, are understood not as mischief but as a symbol of his accessibility and intimacy with devotees. This form is worshipped for its association with innocence, abundance, and unconditional love.

Vaagai wood, a dense hardwood with a tight grain, has long been used in South Indian temple carving traditions. Its density supports fine surface detail and resists warping over time, making it well-suited to both devotional and decorative objects intended for long-term use.

The piece carries a deep, warm brown finish that brings out the natural grain of the wood and gives the surface a smooth, burnished quality visible across the figure and arch. As with all handcrafted work, individual pieces will carry subtle variation in tone, grain pattern, and surface texture.

This sculpture is suited for a puja room, home altar, or as a considered gift for collectors of traditional Indian wood carving.

How We Pack It

Every idol is individually wrapped in soft cloth and nestled in foam casing inside a double-walled corrugated box. We have shipped to 25+ countries without a single breakage complaint.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
