About This Piece

10″ Divine Patanjali | Handcrafted Brass | Antique Brown Finish

This 10.5-inch brass sculpture depicts Sage Patanjali seated in a composed, upright posture with hands joined in anjali mudra, the gesture of salutation and humility. The figure rises from a coiled serpent body and is crowned by a wide, fanned hood of Shesha, the cosmic serpent, with seven heads arching overhead. The sculpture measures 10.5 inches in height, 6 inches in width and depth, and weighs 3 kilograms — dimensions that give it a commanding, grounded presence without overwhelming a space.

The casting captures an exceptional level of surface detail. The serpent hood is rendered with individual scale patterns across each of its seven necks, and the hood's spread is framed with carved figural elements along its outer edges. The coiled base that forms the lower body of Patanjali carries the same careful scale-work, and the tiered circular pedestal beneath is decorated with traditional motifs and supported by small carved feet. The face holds a serene, inward expression consistent with iconographic representations of the sage in meditative composure. Four arms are visible, with the primary pair in anjali, and the ornamentation across the torso — jewelry, armlets, and a decorative crown — has been worked in fine relief.

In Indian tradition, Patanjali is the author of the Yoga Sutras and is revered as the foundational authority on the practice and philosophy of yoga. He is depicted in this half-human, half-serpent form to represent the union of earthly wisdom and cosmic knowledge, and his image is a standard presence in spaces dedicated to practice, study, and contemplative living.

Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been used in Indian devotional metalwork for centuries. It holds detail well during casting, develops a stable surface over time, and carries a warmth in tone that suits both ritual and display contexts.

The antique brown finish applied to this piece creates depth across the raised surface details, allowing the carved work to read clearly. As with all handcrafted pieces, natural variation in tone, texture, and surface character will exist between individual sculptures. This is suitable for a meditation room, yoga studio, personal altar, or as a considered gift for a practitioner or collector.

How We Pack It

Every idol is individually wrapped in soft cloth and nestled in foam casing inside a double-walled corrugated box. We have shipped to 25+ countries without a single breakage complaint.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
