About This Piece

9″ Seated Goddess Lakshmi | Handcrafted Brass | Antique Brown Finish

This 9-inch seated Goddess Lakshmi idol is handcrafted in solid brass and measures 9 inches in height, 6.5 inches in width, and 5 inches in depth, with a finished weight of 3,800 grams. She is rendered in the traditional four-armed seated posture, positioned in padmasana on an ornately detailed pedestal base that features miniature elephant figures flanking the front — a classical iconographic element associated with Gaja Lakshmi, the form of the goddess attended by elephants symbolizing royal abundance.

The sculpting follows a rigorous handcrafting process involving casting in solid brass followed by detailed surface work done by hand. The facial features are finely resolved — a composed, downward-tilted expression with clearly defined eyes, a central bindi, and a tiered crown typical of South Indian temple iconography. The ornamentation across the torso, arms, and crown has been worked with precision, including layered necklaces, armlets, and textured clothing folds visible at the lower body. Two of the four hands are raised holding what appear to be kalasha forms, while the lower hands are positioned in gestures of blessing and offering — consistent with classical Lakshmi iconography.

Lakshmi is the principal deity of wealth, material prosperity, and auspicious fortune in Hindu tradition. Her seated form — stable, composed, and fully adorned — represents established grace rather than transient luck. She is worshipped across households and temples, particularly during Diwali and on Fridays, and her presence in a home or workspace carries deep ceremonial and cultural meaning.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc that has been the preferred material for Indian devotional sculpture for centuries. It holds fine detail during casting, resists corrosion over time, and develops a warm, dense quality that distinguishes it from lighter metals or resin substitutes.

This piece carries an antique brown finish that deepens the surface relief and gives the sculpture a sense of age and gravity. As a handcrafted object, it will carry natural variation in tone and surface texture from piece to piece.

This idol is suited for a consecrated puja room, a home altar, a study or office setting where a grounded, considered aesthetic is valued, or as a considered gift for housewarmings, weddings, or festive occasions.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
