This handcrafted Panchaloha sculpture captures the divine moment of Kalinga Nardana Krishna—the victorious dance upon the serpent Kalinga. Symbolising courage, protection, and the triumph of good over negativity, this form of Krishna is believed to cleanse one’s space of unseen energies and bring divine grace into the home. Finished in an elegant wood patina, the piece highlights the rhythmic posture of Krishna, the coiled serpent beneath him, and the devotional presence of Kalinga’s wives praying for peace. The sculpture carries an ancient, earthy charm reminiscent of traditional South Indian temple bronzes. Perfect for: pooja rooms, vastu energy balancing, living room décor, gifting, and traditional art collectors.Care: Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid moisture and chemicals to preserve the patina. Note: At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. These unique characteristics, along with potential differences in lighting and screen displays, may cause the product to appear slightly different from the images shown.

About This Piece

8″ Kalinga Krishna | Handcrafted Panchaloha | Wood Patina Finish

This 8-inch Kalinga Krishna idol is handcrafted in Panchaloha, the traditional South Indian five-metal alloy, and depicts the celebrated iconographic moment of Kalinga Nardana — Krishna dancing upon the hood of the serpent Kalinga. The sculpture measures 8 inches in height, 4.5 inches in width, and 3.5 inches in depth, and weighs approximately 1000 grams.

The figure is rendered with considerable craft precision. Krishna stands in a dynamic tribhanga posture — one leg raised, weight shifted, the body caught mid-movement — atop the fanned hood of the Kalinga serpent, whose tail curves upward and is held in Krishna's extended right hand. The left hand is raised in abhaya mudra. The base of the sculpture shows a supplicant figure with folded hands, representing Kalinga's wives pleading for mercy. The ornamentation across the form — the crown, armlets, waistband, and draped lower garment — is worked with fine surface detail consistent with traditional temple iconography. The face carries a composed, calm expression that contrasts with the energy of the dancing posture.

The Kalinga Nardana episode from the Bhagavata Purana holds deep significance in the Vaishnava tradition. It represents the subduing of destructive forces and the restoration of harmony — Krishna does not destroy Kalinga but compels him to leave, an act interpreted as the triumph of grace over aggression and the protection of the community from harm.

Panchaloha is a sacred alloy composed of gold, silver, copper, zinc, and iron in proportions prescribed by Agamic texts. It has been used for centuries in South Indian temple icon-making for its density, workability, and the quality of surface detail it retains after casting and hand-finishing.

This piece carries a wood patina finish — a warm, deep brown tone with an earthy, aged quality visible across the entire surface, lending the sculpture the appearance of an antique temple bronze. As with all handcrafted work, minor variation in tone, texture, and surface character between pieces is inherent and expected.

This sculpture is suited to a consecrated puja room, a home altar dedicated to Krishna, or a serious collection of classical South Indian devotional bronzes.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
