Invoke divine protection and time consciousness with this 5.5-inch Panchaloha Kala Bhairava idol, a fierce yet benevolent form of Lord Shiva. Known as the guardian of time (Kāla) and the protector of temples, Lord Bhairava is depicted here with intense detailing—holding a trident, drum, and bowl, standing majestically with his loyal dog vahana by his side. Handcrafted from the sacred South Indian Panchaloha alloy (five-metal bronze), this intricately sculpted idol radiates power and spiritual energy. His flaming hair, adorned with a skull crown, symbolizes destruction of ego and protection against evil forces. Ideal for home shrines, temple sanctums, and devotees seeking protection, clarity, and time discipline, this statue is not just a devotional artifact but also a powerful presence in any sacred space. Note: At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. These unique characteristics, along with potential differences in lighting and screen displays, may cause the product to appear slightly different from the images shown.

About This Piece

5″ Kala Bhairava Idol | Handcrafted Panchaloha

This 5.5-inch Kala Bhairava idol is cast in Panchaloha, the traditional South Indian five-metal alloy, and measures 5.5 inches in height by 2.75 inches wide and 2 inches in depth, weighing 350 grams. The figure stands upright in a composed, frontal posture on a layered circular pedestal, with four arms each holding a distinct attribute — the trishula is clearly visible on the left, and a small bowl is held in one of the lower hands. His loyal dog vahana stands at his feet to one side, rendered with careful attention to form and proportion.

The sculpture follows the iconographic conventions of the Bhairava tradition as codified in South Indian temple craft. The figure's towering flame-like crown is worked with layered detail, rising above a face that carries a composed intensity rather than overt ferocity — steady, watchful, and precise. The body is adorned with carved jewelry across the chest, upper arms, and waist, and the lower garment falls in flat, defined folds. This level of surface work demands skilled hands at every stage — from wax modeling and metal pouring through to the hand-finishing that brings out the facial features and ornamental detail.

Kala Bhairava is understood in the Shaiva tradition as the lord of time, Kāla, and the fierce protector of sacred sites and thresholds. His form is invoked for protection, discipline, and the removal of obstacles related to time, fear, and negative forces. He is the guardian of the eight directions and holds particular importance in Shaiva temples across South India.

Panchaloha — a consecrated alloy of gold, silver, copper, zinc, and iron — has been the prescribed material for South Indian ritual sculptures for over a thousand years. Its density, warm tonal range, and long-term structural integrity make it the standard for devotional idol-making in the Agamic tradition.

This piece carries a polished finish, giving the surface a bright, warm gold tone visible across the crown, face, and body. As with all handcrafted work, minor variation in surface texture and tone is inherent to the process and consistent with authentic hand-finished sculpture. This idol belongs in a home shrine, personal altar, or temple setting, and is equally suited as a collector's piece for those with a serious interest in South Indian sacred metalwork.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
