A beautiful representation of Ardhanareeswar, the sacred union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in one form. Crafted in super fine brass, the sculpture captures intricate detailing across the ornaments, posture, and expressions. About This Piece

4″ Ardhanareeswar Idol for Pooja & Home Décor | Super Fine Brass | Antique Polish

This 4-inch Ardhanareeshwara idol, measuring 4" H x 3.5" W x 1.5" D and weighing 150 grams, is cast in superfine brass and finished in an antique polish that gives the surface a deep, darkened silver-grey tone. The form depicts the composite deity standing upright on a tiered oval base, flanked by Nandi on the left and a lion on the right.

The sculpture is handcrafted using traditional casting methods that demand close attention to iconographic proportion and surface detail. The figure holds a trishul in one raised hand and what appears to be a small object in the other, with the body divided along its vertical axis to represent the masculine and feminine halves. Across the torso, waist, and arms, the ornamentation is rendered with precision — layered necklaces, armlets, a detailed waistband, and textured fabric patterns on the lower garment are all clearly distinguishable. The expression on the face is calm and composed. The base carries a border of fine relief work that frames the entire composition.

Ardhanareeshwara is one of the most philosophically significant forms in the Shaiva tradition. The composite form of Shiva and Parvati joined in one body represents the interdependence of Purusha and Prakriti — the masculine principle of consciousness and the feminine principle of energy. It is understood as a teaching on wholeness: that creation itself arises from the union of these two forces, and that neither is complete without the other. Nandi and the lion, placed on either side, carry associations of devotion, strength, and protection within this iconographic scheme.

Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been used in Indian devotional metalwork for centuries. It is valued for its density, workability under fine tools, and its ability to hold surface treatments such as antique polish with lasting depth and evenness.

The antique finish on this piece produces a rich, aged quality that draws out the surface relief clearly. As with all handcrafted work, minor variation in tone, texture, and detailing from piece to piece is natural and expected. This idol suits a puja room, personal altar, or as a considered gift for someone who values traditional iconography and craft.
