About This Piece

19″ Vishnu Standing | Handcrafted Brass | Brown Finish

This 19.5-inch standing brass sculpture depicts Lord Vishnu in a formal upright posture, rendered with four arms each holding his classical attributes — the Sudarshana Chakra, the Shankha (conch), the Kaumodaki gada (mace), and the open Abhaya gesture. The idol measures 19.5 inches in height, 7 inches in width, and 6.5 inches in depth, weighing approximately 8.9 kilograms, and is mounted on a tiered stepped pedestal that mirrors the proportions found in traditional temple sanctum bases.

The figure has been cast using lost-wax casting methods, a process that demands precise wax modeling before metal is poured, followed by extensive hand-finishing to bring out the surface detail. The crown, known as the Kirita Makuta, rises tall with layered ornamentation. The chest carries detailed necklaces, the waistband and lower garment drape are carved with visible fabric folds, and the facial expression holds the composed, benevolent quality consistent with classical Vaishnava iconographic tradition. Each element — from the floral armlets to the treatment of the feet — reflects careful attention to proportional correctness.

Vishnu in his standing form, known as Sthanakar or the standing cosmic guardian, represents dharmic order, preservation of the universe, and the principle of balance between creation and dissolution. This form is among the most worshipped in South Indian temple traditions and holds deep significance in daily puja practice.

Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been the preferred material for Indian devotional sculpture for centuries. It offers structural density, a warm underlying tone that responds well to finishing treatments, and a durability that allows fine surface detail to hold over long periods without deterioration.

The finish applied here is an antique brown, achieved through controlled oxidation processes that deepen into the recesses while leaving raised surfaces with a warmer, lighter tone. As each piece is individually handcrafted, natural variation in surface texture, depth of patina, and fine detailing should be expected and understood as inherent to the process.

This sculpture is well suited to a dedicated puja room, a home altar maintained for daily worship, or as a considered acquisition for someone building a collection of classical Indian devotional metalwork.

How We Pack It

Every idol is individually wrapped in soft cloth and nestled in foam casing inside a double-walled corrugated box. We have shipped to 25+ countries without a single breakage complaint.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
