This 18-inch handcrafted Murugan sculpture, measuring 18" H x 9.5" W x 3" D and weighing approximately 2900g, is carved from Vaagai wood using traditional hand-carving techniques. The piece presents Lord Murugan in a standing posture, holding a staff in his right hand, with his left hand extended in a gesture of blessing. He stands beneath a fully carved arch crowned with a fierce kirtimukha face and flanked by scrolling foliage, with the entire composition resting on a tiered base adorned with a central lotus and peacock motifs on either side.

The carving follows classical South Indian iconographic conventions. The figure wears an elaborate crown, layered ornamental jewelry across the chest, and a pleated lower garment rendered with fine parallel incised lines. The arch surrounding the deity is densely worked, with each section carrying distinct relief patterns that speak to hours of sustained chisel work. The peacock at the lower left of the base is carved with close attention to feather texture and form, and is a recurring iconographic element in Murugan imagery.

Lord Murugan, also known as Kartikeya or Skanda, is one of the principal deities of South Indian tradition. He is the son of Shiva, the commander of celestial forces, and the deity most closely associated with valor, wisdom, and the pursuit of truth.
