About This Piece

15″ Rishabadevar | Handcrafted Brass | Green Finish

This 15-inch Rishabadevar idol is handcrafted in brass and stands at a height of 38 centimetres, with a width of 15 centimetres and depth of 11 centimetres, weighing approximately 3,900 grams. The figure is rendered in a classical South Indian standing posture, with one leg gently crossed in front of the other, conveying ease and poise rather than rigidity. The arms are positioned away from the body with open hands, a gesture that carries quiet authority in traditional iconographic language.

The sculpture is produced through a casting process that requires considerable skill in both shaping the form and refining the surface details. The ornamental work is particularly precise — a layered necklace sits across the chest, armlets wrap both upper arms, and an elaborately carved waistband and lower garment are worked with fine horizontal and textural lines. The crown is structured and detailed, consistent with classical representations of this Jain tirthankara. Each of these elements is formed and finished by hand, requiring an understanding of both the tools and the iconographic requirements of the tradition.

Rishabadevar, also known as Adinath, is the first of the twenty-four tirthankaras in Jain tradition. He is regarded as a ford-maker — one who has crossed the cycle of birth and death and shown others the path. His depiction in a calm, balanced stance reflects the Jain values of inner stillness, non-attachment, and spiritual discipline. Sculptures of this form have held a central place in Jain devotional practice for centuries.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc that has been used in Indian devotional objects for a very long time. It holds fine detail well during casting, carries a warmth in tone that ages meaningfully, and remains structurally durable over decades of use.

This piece is finished in a stone green patina, applied over the full surface and selectively highlighted in gold at the ornamental areas, creating contrast that draws attention to the detailing. As with all handcrafted work, natural variation in surface tone, texture, and highlight placement should be expected between individual pieces.

This sculpture is suited to a dedicated puja space, a Jain home altar, or a curated interior that values classical South Indian craftsmanship. It is also a considered choice as a meaningful gift for collectors or those with a serious interest in devotional art.

How We Pack It

Every idol is individually wrapped in soft cloth and nestled in foam casing inside a double-walled corrugated box. We have shipped to 25+ countries without a single breakage complaint.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
