About This Piece

14″ Radha Krishna Idol | Handcrafted Brass | Brown Patina

This 14-inch handcrafted brass Radha Krishna idol measures 14 inches in height, 9.5 inches in width, and 6.5 inches in depth, weighing a substantial 9 kilograms. The sculpture depicts Krishna standing in his characteristic tribhanga posture — the triple-bend stance — with a flute raised to his lips, while Radha stands beside him in composed grace, her right hand extended in a gesture of gentle offering. Both figures are mounted on a detailed lotus base with floral relief work that anchors the composition with visual weight and traditional symmetry.

The level of surface detail on this piece reflects serious casting and finishing work. The crowns, jewellery, garments, and facial expressions have been individually worked after the initial cast, with chasing tools used to sharpen the ornamentation — the layered necklaces, the peacock feathers in Krishna's crown, the draped fabric folds across both figures. A peacock is visible at the base near Krishna's feet, a recurring iconographic element in classical representations of this form. This degree of hand-finishing requires considerable skill and time, and it is what separates a sculpted idol from a mould-released reproduction.

Radha and Krishna together represent the relationship between the individual soul and the divine — Radha as the embodiment of devotion and Krishna as its object. In the Vaishnava tradition, this pairing is considered among the most complete expressions of bhakti, and the form has been rendered in brass and bronze across centuries of Indian devotional art.

Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been the preferred material for Indian devotional sculpture for centuries. It holds fine detail well, develops a warm tone over time, and carries the physical density that gives a sculpted idol its sense of permanence. At 9 kilograms, this piece has substantial presence.

The antique brown patina finish gives the surface a layered appearance — areas of warm gold catch light across the raised ornamentation, while recessed surfaces hold a deeper brown, creating contrast that brings the detailing forward. As with all handcrafted work, natural variation in tone and texture exists between pieces.

This idol is well-suited for a dedicated puja room, a home altar, or as a considered gift for a houswarming, wedding, or religious occasion.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
