Celebrate Shiva’s cosmic dance with this 13-inch Nataraja in a classic antique finish. The sculpture captures the Ananda Tandava—creation, preservation, and dissolution—within the flaming aureole. Shiva’s right hand offers abhaya (fearlessness), the left keeps the rhythm with the damaru, the upper hand bears agni (transformation), and the foot on Apasmara dispels ignorance. A temple-style pedestal and crisp detailing on the crown, ornaments, and flowing locks make it a striking centerpiece for altars or living rooms.Care: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth; avoid chemicals to preserve the patina. Note: At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. These unique characteristics, along with potential differences in lighting and screen displays, may cause the product to appear slightly different from the images shown.

About This Piece

13″ Divine Nataraja | Handcrafted Brass | Antique Finish

This 13-inch Nataraja sculpture, measuring 33cm high by 26cm wide and weighing 3,100 grams, is cast in solid brass and finished by hand to achieve a warm, aged patina consistent with antique-style devotional metalwork.

The form follows the canonical iconography of the Ananda Tandava, Shiva's dance of cosmic bliss. Each element is worked with close attention to the classical tradition: the upper right hand carries agni, the flame of transformation; the lower right is raised in abhaya mudra, the gesture of fearlessness; the upper left holds the damaru, whose two-beat rhythm marks the pulse of creation; and the lower left sweeps outward in the gaja hasta gesture. The right foot presses down on Apasmara, the figure of ignorance, while the left is raised mid-step. The encircling prabhamandala, the ring of flames representing the cycle of creation, preservation, and dissolution, is detailed with individual flame tips around its full circumference. The crown is layered and ornamented, the matted locks radiate outward from the face, and the facial expression is composed and inward-looking, consistent with the classical rendering of Shiva in meditative motion. The tiered lotus pedestal below grounds the composition and is engraved with scrollwork along its base.

In Indian philosophical and devotional tradition, Nataraja is among the most complete representations of Shiva's nature — simultaneously creator, sustainer, and destroyer. The form has been central to temple worship and iconographic study for over a thousand years, particularly within Shaivite traditions.

Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been the preferred material for Indian devotional sculpture for centuries. It holds fine detail through casting, develops a stable surface over time, and carries a warmth in tone that suits both ritual and decorative contexts. At 3,100 grams, this piece has the density and solidity expected of quality devotional metalwork.

The antique finish gives the surface a deep golden-brown tone with natural variation across the raised and recessed areas, as visible in the image. Because each piece is individually cast and finished by hand, minor differences in surface texture, tone depth, and detailing are inherent to the process and are what distinguish handcrafted work from production casting.

This sculpture suits a home puja room, a dedicated altar space, or as a serious collector's acquisition in classical Indian iconography.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
