About This Piece

12″ Uruthuva Tandava Shiva (Leg-Up Tandava) | Handcrafted Brass | Stone Finish

This 12-inch Uruthuva Tandava Shiva idol is handcrafted in brass and measures 12 inches in height, 6.5 inches in width, and 4 inches in depth, weighing 3,200 grams. The form captures Lord Shiva mid-dance with one leg raised — the Uruthuva Tandava pose — rendered with four arms extended in distinct gestures, the body balanced over a carved lotus base with quiet but unmistakable force.

The sculpture is cast using traditional lost-wax and sand-casting methods that demand considerable skill to execute at this scale. The four arms, each positioned differently, require careful structural planning during casting to retain both stability and visual energy. The surface has been worked by hand to bring out the textile patterning on the lower garment, the ornamental detailing on the anklets and waistband, and the tiered crown — all of which are visible clearly in the finished piece. The expression on the face is composed, even as the body is in full motion, which is precisely what makes this iconographic form technically and spiritually demanding to render well.

In Indian devotional tradition, the Tandava is Shiva's cosmic dance — a rhythm that governs creation, preservation, and dissolution. The Uruthuva variant, with the leg raised upward, conveys mastery over physical and metaphysical forces simultaneously. It is not a dance of aggression but of absolute control, the destruction of ignorance held within the discipline of form.

Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been used in Indian ritual and decorative objects for centuries. It is valued for its density, warm tonal depth, and resistance to corrosion — qualities that make it well-suited to sculptural work intended to last across generations.

This piece carries a stone finish — a dark, matte treatment that reads almost black in shadow and reveals warm amber-gold tones at the raised edges and ornamented surfaces where the finish settles differently. Because every idol is individually handcrafted, no two pieces will be identical in surface texture or tonal variation, and these differences are inherent to the process.

This idol is suited to a dedicated puja room, a meditation corner, or a heritage art collection where expressive Chola-inspired sculptural forms are appreciated.

How We Pack It

Every idol is individually wrapped in soft cloth and nestled in foam casing inside a double-walled corrugated box. We have shipped to 25+ countries without a single breakage complaint.

Orders are dispatched within 2-3 working days. Domestic delivery takes 5-7 days. International shipping takes 10-15 working days via tracked courier.

How to Care For It

Wipe regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners, acidic solutions, or abrasive pads. For occasional deep cleaning, use warm water and mild soap — dry immediately after.

Brass and Panchaloha naturally develop patina over time. If you prefer the original finish, apply a thin coat of coconut oil monthly.
