About This Piece
12″ Aadi Antha Prabhu (Half Ganesha - Half Hanuman) | Handcrafted Brass
This 12.5-inch handcrafted brass sculpture depicts Aadi Antha Prabhu, a composite form that unites Ganesha and Hanuman in a single standing figure, measuring 12.5 inches in height, 5.5 inches in width, and 4.5 inches in depth, with a weight of 7,000 grams.
The figure is cast and finished by hand, and the craftsmanship is evident in the density of detail across the entire form. The sculpture stands upright in a confident posture on a tiered lotus pedestal with engraved petal work along its base. Four arms extend outward, each carrying an attribute — one hand holds a lidded vessel, another raises a large mace or gada upward, while the remaining hands are positioned in gestures that reference both devotional iconography and martial readiness. The torso, dhoti folds, armlets, anklets, and the stacked crown are all rendered with the kind of surface articulation that comes from careful hand-finishing after casting. The trunk curves naturally downward, and the expression of the face carries the broad, composed quality typical of classical Ganesha iconography.
The theological logic behind this form is precise. Ganesha is invoked at the beginning of every sacred or worldly undertaking — he is Aadi, the first. Hanuman, understood as the eternal servant who persists beyond the dissolution of creation, represents Anta, the end. Together they form Aadyanta Prabhu — the lord of beginning and end — a single invocation that encompasses the full arc of any endeavor, from its first step to its completion.
Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been the primary material for Indian devotional sculpture for centuries. It holds fine detail well during casting, develops a warm, stable tone over time, and is dense enough to give a sculpture of this size genuine physical presence. At 7,000 grams, this piece has substantial weight.
The finish is antique polish, which gives the surface a muted golden-brown tone with darker recesses that allow the carved details to read clearly. Because the piece is individually handcrafted, the exact depth of tone and surface texture will vary slightly from what is shown in photographs.
This sculpture is suited for a puja room, home altar, office entrance, or as a considered gift for a housewarming, inauguration, or any occasion where a blessing of both beginning and continuity is appropriate.
