4-5-lakshmi-with-yazhi-arch-lamp-super-fine-brass-polished-finish
4.5″ Lakshmi with Yazhi Arch Lamp | Super Fine Brass | Polished Finish

This handcrafted Lakshmi with Yazhi Arch Lamp, cast in super fine brass, stands 4.5 inches (12 cm) tall, 3 inches (8 cm) wide, and 3 inches (8 cm) deep, weighing approximately 250 g, and depicts a four-armed Lakshmi seated on a lotus within a towering ornamental arch flanked by yazhi figures, rising above a shallow oil lamp bowl set on a beaded pedestal base.

The lamp is produced using traditional lost-wax casting, a method that allows the layered complexity of this composition to remain fully resolved and legible at its scale. The arch is the dominant structural element — a wide frame edged with scrolling foliate tendrils in continuous relief, crowned at the apex with a layered finial worked in tiered botanical detail, and anchored at each lower corner by a yazhi, the mythical leonine guardian figure of South Indian temple iconography, rendered with sufficient clarity to show its body turned outward and its mane indicated in textured relief. At the centre of the arch, Lakshmi is seated in a composed frontal posture on a fully bloomed lotus, wearing an elaborate crown and jewelry across her torso, her four arms extended outward with attributes held in each hand. The bowl beneath the arch is shallow and wide with a floral relief band across its outer wall, seated above a tapering neck that descends into a broad domed pedestal base finished in closely set bead-work across its surface. Super fine brass casting is what allows the yazhi forms, the arch scrollwork, the Lakshmi figure, the lotus seat, the bowl relief, and the beaded pedestal to remain crisp and defined within a single unified composition.

Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, abundance, and auspiciousness in Hindu tradition, and among the most widely worshipped deities in household and temple practice. Her depiction in a lamp form carries particular ritual significance — light and Lakshmi are closely linked in devotional tradition, especially during Diwali and daily puja. The yazhi figures flanking the arch are a classical motif in South Indian sacred art, understood as guardians of the threshold and protectors of the deity they frame.

Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, has been central to Indian devotional and decorative metalwork for centuries. It holds fine cast detail with fidelity, carries a warm tonal depth that develops with age, and is structurally durable — qualities that make it suited for both active ritual use and long-term display.

This lamp carries a polished finish, visible in the bright warm gold tone across the arch scrollwork, yazhi figures, Lakshmi figure, lotus seat, bowl rim, and pedestal surface, with darkened recesses in the carved channels between foliate detail and bead rows that give the composition its definition and depth. Handcrafted pieces carry natural variation in surface texture and tone between individual sculptures.

This Lakshmi with Yazhi Arch Lamp is well suited for a puja room or home altar, for Diwali and festival lighting, as a gifting piece for housewarmings, weddings, or religious occasions, or as a collector's piece in classical Indian devotional brassware.

Note: At Cosmic Studio, every sculpture is individually handcrafted, ensuring no two pieces are exactly alike. Minor variations in color, texture, and detailing are a natural result of the artisanal process and are considered marks of authenticity. These unique characteristics, along with potential differences in lighting and screen displays, may cause the product to appear slightly different from the images shown.
